This Easy Origami Dog is made with two sheets of square paper. One sheet will be used to make the head and the second sheet will be used to make the body of the dog. It is a really simple model to fold but it is also quite rewarding because it is really cute.

Instructions for Easy Origami Dog Head

Take a square sheet of paper with the white side facing up. Position it in “diamond” orientation (balanced on one of its corners). Fold it in half (left to right). Unfold.

Step 2:

Fold the paper in half (top to bottom).

Fold in the left and right sides of the model; these will be the ears. Make the folds so the distance is the same from the each ear to the vertical crease.

Step 4:

Fold up the bottom corner of the model; this will be the snout.

This is how it looks.

Lift open the layers of paper and tuck the bottom layer under. This makes it so the snout is a different color.

Dog’s head is done.

Instructions for the Easy Origami Dog Body

Step 6:

Take the second sheet of paper with the white side facing up. Fold in half along the diagonal as shown.

Fold up the bottom-right corner: this will be the tail.

You can place the dog’s head over the body and be done. Or, continue below.

Step 8:

Unfold the tail section and make an outside reverse fold. To do this, invert the tail inside-out so the white side is visible.

Flatten down.

Dog’s body is done.

Place the dog’s head over its body.

You can pry open the body a little and then the dog can sit upright.

If desired, draw eyes and nose. Decorate!

Other origami animals in this web site include dogs, cats, rabbits, foxes, birds, various insects, and more. Most of these diagrams are “traditional” which means that they have been invented many years ago – so many years that no one knows who was the original creator. In a way, it is inspirational that, without internet and easy communication, early origami artists were able to create so many things. Maybe you can create some origami models too. Give it a try and let us know what you discover!
