This document explains how to enable autofill, a browser feature that fills out the an entire form such as those that ask for shipping or billing information.

Forms automation software provides you with the platform to create, manage, access, complete and authorize forms without using paper. When entire companies (rather than individuals or small groups) employ a forms management system, it’s called “enterprise forms automation.” Forms automation software vendors cater to every business size.

Autocomplete is quite similar, but not the same. It gives you suggestions as you type in an address bar or search box. To enable the autofill feature, select your browser from the list below and follow the steps.

Read before proceeding

If you want to disable autofill, repeat the steps in any of the following sections and select the option to turn it off.

If you are enabling autofill for the first time, you'll need to manually enter text into a form to 'teach' autofill what to automatically enter the next time. Or, you can add and edit the information yourself. See: How to add, change, or clear autofill data.

Not all forms on the Internet support the autofill feature. Some web pages disable autofill, so you have to manually enter text into a form each time.

Microsoft Edge users

1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
2. Click the button in the upper-right corner of the screen.
3. Select Settings, and then scroll to the bottom and click the button.
4. Under the Autofill section, move the switch next to Save form entries to the on position ().
5. Fill out a form.
6. Once you've completed the previous steps, try out your autofill using the example test form below. Click the first form field, type your first name, then press the down arrow, then press Enter.

Internet Explorer users

All the latest versions of Internet Explorer only use autocomplete feature, which means you cannot edit autofill entries manually, only delete them.

1. Open the Internet Explorer browser.
2. Click Tools in the upper-right corner.
3. Select Internet Options from the drop-down menu.

4. In the window that opens, click the Content tab (A) and then select Settings (B) in the AutoComplete section.

5. Check the box next to Forms and searches.
6. Fill out a form.
7. Once you've completed the previous steps, try out your autofill using the example test form below. Click the first form field, type your first name, then press the down arrow, then press Enter.

Google Chrome users

1. Open the Google Chrome browser.
2. Click Customize and control Google Chrome in the upper-right corner of the screen.
3. From the drop-down menu, select Settings.
4. Click the button at the bottom of the screen.
5. In the Passwords and Forms section, click the arrow in the Autofill settings box.

6. In the Autofill Settings menu, ensure that the slider is set to (on position).
7. Fill out a form.
8. Once you've completed the previous steps, try out your autofill using the example test form below. Click the first form field, type your first name, then press the down arrow, then press Enter.

Firefox users

1. Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.
2. Click the button in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
3. Select from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. In the next window, select the Privacy & Security tab.

5. In the Browser Privacy section, check the boxes next to Ask to save logins and passwords for websites (A) and Autofill addresses (B).

6. Fill out a form.
7. Once you've completed the previous steps, try out your autofill using the example test form below. Click the first form field, type your first name, then press the down arrow, then press Enter.

Opera users

1. Open the Opera browser.
2. Click in the upper-left corner of the screen.

5. Under the Autofill section, make sure the box next to Enable auto-filling of forms on webpages is checked.

6. Fill out a form.
7. Once you've completed the previous steps, try out your autofill using the example test form below. To enter the values, double-click on any of the fields in the test form and then select the name of your address.

Safari users

1. Open the Safari browser.
2. Select Safari in the upper-left corner of the desktop.
3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Preferences.
4. Select the Autofilltab.
5. Select the check boxes next to the forms you would like Safari to fill in automatically.
6. Once you've completed the previous steps, try out your autofill using the example test form below. To enter the values, double-click on any of the fields in the test form and then select the name of your address.
